ABOUT US
Since 2007, Minneapolis Climate Action (MCA) has worked in collaboration with community members and local organizations to create energy democracy through community building and climate solutions rooted in deep systemic change. Vision: Engaged, resilient communities with democratized, equitable access to sustainable climate solutions.
Mission: We advance equitable opportunities to build resilient communities through climate solutions by fostering inclusive collaboration, empowering underserved populations, and driving sustainable innovation. Through education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships, we ensure that all communities especially those disproportionately affected by climate change—have access to the resources, knowledge, and technologies needed to thrive in a changing world.
COMMUNITY SOLAR GARDEN
Minneapolis Climate Action currently manages two active community solar gardens (CSG), one atop North High School and the other atop Emerge/Second Chance Recycling, and we are actively recruiting subscribers for our third CSG atop Repowered, with expected connection in Spring 2026.
What is Community Solar? Community solar is a subscription-based service that allows community members to benefit directly from a built solar array. Utility customers subscribe to shares of the community solar garden by the kilowatt (kW) and receive bill credits directly on their electricity bill each month, based on the energy produced by their allocation of the CSG. The only eligibility requirement is that you are an Xcel Energy customer!
MCA’s community solar gardens subscribers save on average $200-$300 per year, with no upfront out-of-pocket costs! (The final savings depend on total subscription size and customer group, and production).
Community Solar allows you to save money directly on your Xcel Energy bill, while also supporting clean energy! Learn more here, or contact MCA’s Community Solar Program at subscriber@mplsclimate.org TODAY!
